My thoughts, in scattered fragments with no line.
Searching for Caleb was much better than I expected,
although I'm unsatisfied with the end. Anne Tyler is in my
authors-to-read list now. Interesting characters, good writing, maybe
a little too obvious in terms of resolving the secondary conflict of
'what will Duncan do with himself?'. The solution was presented too
early on for the characters to be as oblivious to it as they seemed to
be. Still, though, it was overall enjoyable.
Gaming last night was fun, and people were appreciative enough of the
food from Su Hong that I felt less lame about not finishing my search
stuff. Ebeth hugged everyone very adorably before she went to bed. I
got to RP a little with Eric and Czr, and shot some arrows rather
ineffectually at stone gargoyles. Plus I got to cuddle up with Jim and
eat maple nut ice cream, which was an utter win. I love maple. Maple
anything is good; maple ice cream is a bonus, especially given
that Peninsula Creamery failed to have it when I was last there.
A Game of Thrones continues good, although I feel a little like I'm
watching someone flail, and I'm not sure what about the book is giving
me that feeling.
We went over to visit the new building today. I am intensely amused;
the cubes are the exact same pretty purple-grey ones we had at SGI.
Perhaps I'll imitate Greg Bossert and do a 'home wall?'. Quite
possibly, I think. Anyway, we chose cubes; I'm splitting an office
with Vivek, the other new developer who comes from Colorado. He's
nice, so hopefully we won't drive each other nuts.
I've finished my search thingy successfully, and am now working on new
screens. This is much more fun. Talking to Tim (new hire,
product manager -- curly blond hair -- he seems reasonable) is
interesting; I had no idea I had so many opinions about
user-interfaces.
