Ouch

Earl left. Ouch. Yes, I know I'll see him again in nine days -- I'm going to spend the weekend of 6-8 June in LA. Do you really think that helps? I mean, of course it helps a little, but in some ways it'd almost be easier if I only saw him once every few months. As it is I see him every other week (more or less), which means every two weeks I have to get used to being away from him again.

I'm such a romantic fool.

The term 'Ouch' is also on my mind due to my right eye, which is aching abominably for no reason I can ascertain. Not the eye itself, actually, but the right side of my nose beside my eye. I wonder if it's going to turn bruised-looking? My first black eye, maybe. I can't remember doing anything to it, however.

My cubemate has attracted a small fanclub of BMW-obsessed men by hanging BMW foo in his half of the cube. I like my cubemate, and I don't mind the BMW foo -- even if I had some moral objection to pictures of cars, these are hung behind me so I don't actually see them. The intense and somewhat loud discussion of BMW legends and lore, however, I could do without.

My own cube-half is messy but boring; the only decorative thing I have is the Maxfield Parrish calendar hanging on the wall, and it serves the important function of telling me what the date is. Other than that I have a bunch of ORA books (ah, geekdom!) and a few boxes of tea. I had a bunch of things hung up at SGI, but they're currently in my living room, waiting for me to bring them in and hang them back up.

Current Reading: Tiptree. I've almost finished one of the books of short stories I picked up in Grass Valley. "The Women Men Don't See" did not impress me very much, although I suppose for the early 70's it was a big deal. On the other hand, I really liked "The Girl who was Plugged In". I need to talk to Lance about them, since he's half the reason I picked up the collections -- Heather being the other half.

Current Listening: Whenever Earl leaves I go through a period of not listening to music. I have no idea why. But I did buy Shaming of the Sun last night, so as soon as I'm in the mood I'll pop it in. Maybe tonight.

Current Thought: I want to go to school fulltime so badly. It's time I start to put my money where my mouth is. So to speak.
