From: Rostykus, Phyllis Date: Monday, March 18, 1996 4:06PM I think that this particular dream must have been from having had far too much of Microsoft's 'Technical Evangelists' at their latest Microsoft Developer's Conference. It's actually a job titles with the Borg, and it really is what the title suggests, a person that goes running around telling everyone about the technical things that Microsoft does and drums up encouragement and fanatical following of The Microsoft Way... But I dreamed that I was a decker who was an Exorcist. I used software tools, pet UI's, the shape of my imagination and will in the cyber world of the Machine to get rid of all the Ghosts which inhabited machines, it was what I was hired for, and sometimes something I did for free if the 'cause' was good. Kinda ran around doing jobs for people, and sometimes it was scary and sometimes it was exciting, sometimes frustrating and somethings just grind it out and grit through it until the job was done. Sparring with programs was kinda fun, too. Usually they weren't too smart about the tricks that could be done in cyberspace, and it was about as boring as a bout of Angband/Hack. Just plowing through the bugs with a 'hit 'em and kill 'em mentality'; but sometimes they proved to be surprisingly tough and nasty and bloody so far as CPU cycles and memory leaks went. And I was just the techno-geek-girl that romped about doing it. Would be interesting to write at least a short story with that kind of inner world to the Matrix... Phyllis, the Software Exorcist...
