WorldCon

Pros:

  • Seeing old friends, like April and Jim Butcher and Meg and Ralph.
  • Meeting Keely and Barb and Lisa, all of whom I've known online for many years now.
  • Cool new people, such as David and Saul and Howard and Howard.
  • Elboids, such as Jailbait and Bridget and Matt Lawrence -- among many others.
  • The NESFA table, where I bought $200 of books -- which after discount was only $110. I love NESFA.
  • Bid parties, which gave me the opportunity to meet people, as well as having a lot of yummy food.
  • Sweet potato french fries.
  • Flamingos.

Cons:

  • Too much walking. Lots of walking from our hotel to the convention centre. Lots more walking from the convention centre to the other hotels with events of them.
  • The employees of our hotel were rude. Intensely, consistently rude.
  • Completely lame LARP sign-up, which resulted in me not getting into the Mariner LARP since for the first two days of the convention nobody seemed to know where sign-up was.
  • Smog. Lots of smog. The air was awful.
  • Heat and humidity, which made the smog worse.
  • Lack of obvious nearby food. Eventually we found the food court at the harbour mall area, but the first day we mostly were hungry. Why didn't they put something into one of the programs about local restaurants?
  • I missed the Hugo's. Not the fault of WorldCon, but it was definitely a low point of the convention for me. Grr.

Miscellaneous:

  • I failed to run into Ceej.
  • Earl and I got along okay.
  • I do not handle being in strange cities as well as I would like.
