Force Ten

Vivek is listening to Chronicles, which is the Rush greatest-hits album. I approve. Force Ten is a great high-energy song, perfect for failing to code and writing journal entries instead. It also has interesting associations from last fall; one of the early times I realised that I was more open with Jim than with anyone else I know was talking to him about what this song means to me, and going on to describe this long involved story I want to someday write.

I've pretty much failed to code all day, for various excellent reasons. I spent a tiny bit of the morning talking to Vipul and watching Rachel show him her screens. I then spent the rest of the morning doing random sysadmin work (not my job!) until Vivek suddenly dragged me over to eat lunch with him, Omi, and Rachel. That was nice; Omi & Vivek acquired Indian food for the four of us, and I ate mine until I realised that the cilantro density was through the roof. Ugh. I hate cilantro. In the end Rachel finished my food, and gave me her pb&j sandwich in exchange. Much yummier; I feel like I came out ahead in that deal.

Moria (the intriguing QA person who wears a lot of purple) came across us eating lunch and sat down to talk and eat her veggie burger. Discussion was mostly about food, which seems fitting.

And now -- my mom's here! I went and picked her up from the airport without angst (good traffic, except right at the entrance to the airport, and ample time) and brought her back to my house so I could show her around. She petted the cat, dropped her stuff off, and admired the house appropriately. Once that was done we came to Tango, where I introduced her to Pierre, Vivek, Omi, and Rachel (not all at once!). Oh, and pointed proudly at an xemacs window, saying, "This is what I do all day!". She looked bemused.

Now she's taken my car and is off grocery shopping; she's making chicken curry for me & Jim tomorrow night. Eventually Jim will pick me up from work and we'll go home, and all three go to Su Hong, there to meet Jeremy & Rachel. I'm ... a little nervous. Only a little, but oh I hope everyone gets along and it's a nice time.

My music continues to be Over the Rhine -- I think I'll take the CD home this weekend so I'm not deprived.
