Voices & Text

I'm taking a group voice class at Foothill for the summer, MUS 13A. It's on Tuesdays, starting tonight, from 1800-2150. Nearly four hours of singing. Thank goodness I've talked Marith into taking it with me; if it's hideous at least we can talk to each other during the breaks.

I don't expect it to be hideous, though, just interesting. I haven't done any formal (in a class or a choir) singing since ... 1992. Yie. And I do miss it a lot, although I don't miss the stupid high school choir politics. Hopefully a beginning voice class at a community college will have less of that sort of thing. I wonder what the male:female ratio will be? If my experience is in any way common it'll be about 1:5 -- but then again, maybe males who aren't in high school are more willing to do something as girlish as sing. Or maybe it's just males who aren't in Oklahoma.

You may expect a full report tomorrow.

I have too much to read again, but it's such a pleasant state that I can hardly complain. It's embarassing, though, to have too much to read with all of my books still packed. Usually this would be a sure sign that I'm spending too much time in bookstores, but in this case it's all Rachel's fault (for loaning me pretty much every Pratchett book in existance, since I liked the first three she loaned me so much), and Jeremy's fault (for loaning me Startide Rising and A Game of Thrones), and now Eric has gotten into the game as well (he loaned me more Brin, including Sundiver and The Uplift War).

It's a hard life.

Work is going pretty well. Code code code. Today I'm working on my server-side stuff, and on creating tables in the database. I don't understand it nearly as well as I did the client code, but it's coming along well enough, so I try not to fret too much.

Grass Valley this weekend! Lots of people are coming. Czr is bringing Julie. It should be interesting.
