I'm getting ready for a video broadcast tomorrow, for which I have to get up at the hour of godawful, so I mostly listened to the music that makes me up and happy. It was also important that it not distract me from figuring out what the heck goes where in my attempt to assimilate some new software into my project. The three albums mentioned above fit the bill perfectly.
One of my co-workers loaned me some lovely ambient music, very floaty and beautiful. I may be a little too impatient for ambient, or too poorly grounded. I keep wanting more, mentally pushing at it and being incapable of relaxing into it. Perhaps it's better if used to establish space and atmosphere, not played intimately over headphones while concentrating on a single project -- it becomes too claustrophobic for me under such circumstances.
Among the albums are Ambient 1/Music for Airports by Brian Eno, Trance-Zendance by Steven Halpern, and And The Stars Go With You by Jonn Serrie.
Funny, that the rock music distracts me less than the ambient. I guess it's just what I'm used to.
